Jay-Z makes his latest in what's been a two-decade string of big moves. Today (June 18), the rapper was named Puma's new President of Basketball Operations. A rep for Puma confirmed as much with XXL earlier today.
According to the rep, Hov, who founded his own sports agency back in 2013, will assist the brand in every aspect of their re-entry into the basketball shoe portion of the industry, helping with "player signings, product design, and marketing strategy."
This news arrives on the heels of Puma announcing the signing of bluechip NBA prospects like University of Arizona's Deandre Ayton, Duke's Marvin Bagley III, and Texas Tech's Zhaire Smith. With Hov steering the ship and these three players NBA lottery-bound players all aligned with the brand, it looks like Puma could be up to some big things in the very near future.
In related news, Jay is now just two days removed from dropping his long-rumored joint album with his wife Beyoncé. The project, which finds the power couple operating under the duo name, The Carters, is titled Everything Is Love. Checking in at nine tracks, the LP, which features production from Cool & Dre, Pharrell has been the talk of Twitter for the last two days. Hov and Bey are currently in the midst of their On the Run II Tour. Clearly, Mr. Shawn Carter is doing some big things.
